Hinger contains an incredible selection of advanced works for solo timpani.”These solos have been written to contribute interesting and challenging material to the repertoire of the advanced tympanist. The use of pedal tympani in contemporary music requires great facility and quite often the tympanist must change pitches as he plays with no pre-tuning involved. Since some of the solos are quite melodic and there is no opportunity to pre-tune the drums, the pedals bust be used as a string player uses his left hand.”-Fred D.
